Bio/CV

Alison Woods’ images discuss the relationship between the human mind in all of its complexities, and technology and its ramifications on culture. Her process is informed by the intersection between the work of Wassily Kandinsky and the hidden world of our intuitive senses, C.G. Jung and his research regarding the collective unconscious, and the use of modern technology.

She has exhibited Internationally — in Rome, Greece, Berlin, Stockholm, Luxembourg, Australia, Budapest, Johannesburg, Mexico City, Iceland — and closer to home at the Tryst Art Fair in collaboration with Wönzimer and the Torrance Art Museum (2024), The Torrance Art Museum (2021), The Korean Cultural Center (2018), Stanford University Art Spaces (2013), and featured on Art Critic Charles Desmarais’ Blog (2011). She is on the advisory board for the Cycladic Arts Residency in Paros, Greece (2024).

In 2023 Woods created a site-specific installation for The Butterfly Effect, an international exhibition in Athens, Greece, curated by Kostas Prapoglou that attracted an audience of over 75,000. She co-curated 1 Island, 3 ecosystems, 100 miles from LA, a science study project with Supercollider, Santa Rosa Island, CA. In addition, she had a solo exhibition Metaclysm: Abstraction in the Virtual Age at Gallery 825, Los Angeles, and participated in NOMAD, an international exhibition organized by the Torrance Art Museum, Los Angeles, in 2022.

From 2017-2020 she was a member of the Durden and Ray Project Space and co-curated and organized exhibitions in Berlin, Luxembourg, and Greece, and in the Project Space, Los Angeles. She co-curated The Happy House as a part of the “Spring Break Art Show” at the Row in Los Angeles. She also collaborated on We are here, here we are, an exhibition of one hundred artists in outdoor spaces throughout Los Angeles which was featured in the LA Times by Christopher Knight. She went on to help represent Durden and Ray at the “Supermarket Art Fair” in Stockholm, Sweden, by introducing attending artists to international arts opportunities.

In 2014 she founded the “Bridge Residency,” an invitational for artists to explore the Los Angeles art scene. In 2013 Woods was a Pardee Artslant Showcase Winner and the Art Trends Artist of the Year, Canada. In 2012 the San Francisco Art Institute nominated her for the Joan Mitchell Foundation Grant.
